California VOC Regulations for Swimming Pool Paint
California regulations of VOC levels
for paint vary by county and air districts as to acceptability of
rubber, chlorinated rubber and epoxy pool paint. Therefore, the
usage of Paralon2, Poxolon and Optilon swimming pool paints is
restricted in some counties. The following lists should help
California customers quickly identify their specific requirements
and complete their swimming pool painting project efficiently within
the required regulations. There are no restrictions on the usage of
all other

Paralon 2, Poxolon and Optilon cannot be used for
any application in the following California counties: |
Alameda County Butte County Colusa County
Contra Costa County Fresno County Imperial County
Kings County Madera County Marin County Merced County

or sandblasted surfaces, and Paralon 2 and Optilon can be used for
MAINTENANCE over an existing chlorinated rubber coating in the

The following California counties are comprised of two different
"air districts", each with different regulations, as shown below:
- Kern County
a) Kern County APCD (East Kern County) -
Paralon 2, Poxolon and Optilon cannot be used on bare or sandblasted
surfaces, but Paralon 2 and Optilon can be used for MAINTENANCE over
an existing chlorinated rubber coating.
b)San Joaquin Valley
Unified APCD (West Kern County) - Paralon 2, Poxolon and Optilon
cannot be used for any application.
- Los Angeles County
a) Antelope Valley air district
(Northeast of Los Angeles County) - Paralon 2, Poxolon and Optilon
cannot be used on bare or sandblasted surfaces, but Paralon 2 and
Optilon can be used for MAINTENANCE over an existing chlorinated
rubber coating.
b) South Coast AQMD (South and Northwest of
Los Angeles County) - Paralon 2, Poxolon and Optilon cannot be used
for any application.
- Riverside County
a) Mojave Desert AQMD (East Riverside
County) - Paralon 2, Poxolon and Optilon can be used on bare and
sandblasted surfaces, and Paralon 2 and Optilon can be used for
MAINTENANCE over an existing chlorinated rubber coating.
b)
South Coast AQMD (Central and West Riverside County) - Paralon 2,
Poxolon and Optilon cannot be used for any application.
- San Bernardino County
a) Mojave Desert AQMD (Most of
San Bernardino County) - Paralon 2, Poxolon and Optilon can be used
on bare and sandblasted surfaces, and Paralon 2 and Optilon can be
used for MAINTENANCE over an existing chlorinated rubber coating.
b) South Coast AQMD (Central and West Riverside County) -
Paralon 2, Poxolon and Optilon cannot be used for any application.
Because we cannot specifically determine the borders between
these air districts, Paralon2, Poxolon and Optilon are not available
for sale in the above counties unless proper research is done to verify
that the paint will be used only in the Mojave Desert AQMD or for
maintenance only in Kern County APCD and the Antelope Valley
air district. |
